Sports Facilities

The Thornton Ratepayers Association has been inundated with complaints by  Thornton residents whose children are forced to make use of sports facilities outside Thornton due to unacceptable conditions set down by Santos for access to our own sports facilities. This has resulted in the growing Thornton Sports club being confined to the Bowling Club Greens which is grossly insufficient for their needs.
The above deadlock has resulted in various semi heated meetings with Council representatives and the directly affected parties such as the Thornton Sports Club and Thornton Islamic Society. This deadlock has also stalled the upgrade of the Bowling Club as a community hall by the CoCT.
The Thornton Ratepayers Association requires an integrated developments strategy for Thornton Sports precinct that takes into consideration the needs of the younger generation moving into Thornton and especially the impact of the future Conradie development on our existing sports facilities. We need a solution that addresses the needs of the entire community and not specific interest groups.
The letter dated 14 August 2019 below is the latest submission by the Thornton Ratepayers to Council in how we would like the matter resolved. <br> Pending the formal response by the CoCT we are placing our submission to Counsel within the public domain in order for residents to have the necessary background for when the formal CoCT feedback is announced.
